Forensic examination is the legal proceeding that lies in carrying out by the expert, by order of the agencies of inquiry, public prosecutor or a court of the preliminary investigation, in the manner prescribed by the Code of Judicial practice, on the basis of specific knowledge of tangible objects, phenomena, and processes that comprise information about facts in the case considered by the agencies of inquiry, preliminary investigation or a court, and formulation and substantiation of expert opinions.

Forensic and economic examination investigates:
Financial and business activity of enterprises of different form of ownership that made inaccuracies in the calculation of taxes, losses, shortages, thefts of values, mismanagement, and other negative phenomena that became the object of examination by law-enforcement agencies;
Compliance of showing tax liabilities and VAT tax credit in tax accounting according to applicable legislation;
Compliance of showing financial and business transactions with applicable legislation of Ukraine.
Economic examinations of the specialist
The examination by the specialist-economist is carried out on initiative of enterprises or natural persons, if necessary, study of accounting and reporting documents and determination of their conformity with applicable legislation of Ukraine.
Sometimes, after desk audits by tax authorities entrepreneurs are interested in relevance of additional charge of tax liabilities and application of penalties. One of the methods to define the objective truth is the carrying out of the examination by the specialist-economist.
Specialist-economist examines accounting documents, reporting, documents concerning the economic activity and financial and credit transactions, and defines the conformity of processing business transactions with applicable legislation.
The advantage of examination by the specialist-economist is that fact that issues that are examined are raised by the enterprise. Therefore, its interests will not go under the radar. Besides, in future the opinion of the specialist-economist can be used in the legal proceedings as evidence.
